The arrest stemmed from a fatal shooting that happened on Sunday, May 21 just after 7:30 p.m., when police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Sherman Avenue and McKinley Street in Peekskill, according to Peekskill Police Lt. Adam Renwick.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 53-year-old Ernest Wilson of Peekskill with numerous gunshot wounds in the area of Welcher Avenue and Washington Street. Police then immediately gave him medical aid before he was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he died on Wednesday, May 24.
An investigation into the fatal shooting quickly established a potential suspect, identified as 38-year-old Reginald McClure, who was arrested on Wednesday evening.
McClure is charged with:
- Second-degree murder;
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Authorities determined that the shooting was not a random incident and that McClure and Wilson knew each other.
McClure was arraigned in Peekskill City Court on Thursday, May 25, and remanded to Westchester County Jail.
